The David K. Stack & Everyday Tings'

Hello Dearies!

I wanted to quickly share with you all a snack that has become a tradition in my family. My Dad, David K., has been making this 'stack' for himself and his family since I was a little witch. The 'David K. Stack' as we call it is a heavy, delicious and extremely satisfying snack, and is something that is always shared between at least two people. It's filling *wink*!

Filling in a good way though. Yes, this treat has carbs. However, if one uses 100% whole grain bread, unsweetened peanut butter, and just enough natural maple syrup and fruit to moisten this treat while sharing it with another person, it can be a wonderful nutrient-dense component of your diet. Indeed, I had half of this pictured stack with some hot green tea and couldn't eat a thing for the next 5 hours. I just couldn't!

That all being said, I debated as to whether I should even post such a snack or food. I mean, we all have our own standby foods that are less than fabulous in terms of ingredient content. Some are not very photogenic while others are so peculiar we might wonder if anyone else would even eat such a concoction!? Well, this is one of mine. It's simple, delicious, and possibly enticing?!? So, if you're ever in the house with little food on hand, The David K. Stack's ingredients are so typical that it or something like it can usually be thrown together saving you & others from temporary starvation (smile).

Oh, and I think you'll love it...?!

The David K. Stack Ingredients
3 Slices of 100% Whole Grain Bread (Toasted)
Unsweetened Peanut Butter*
Berries, Bananas, Kiwi, peaches, etc.
Maple Syrup
Pinch of cinnamon

*David K. uses the kind that is 100% ground peanuts from the farmer's market!

Toast your bread. Schmear each slice with a bit of peanut butter. Stack the bread adding a little bit of maple syrup between each slice. Top with berries, a bit more maple syrup so that it moistens the sides, and pinch of cinnamon. Enjoy with your best mate! Coffee, hot tea, and cold milk are all super wonderful beverages for this snack.

p.s. I am visiting my parents this week. I will catch up to all my lovelies' posts as soon as I finish planting for my Mom's Fall/Winter garden;)!

  1. This looks wonderfully decadent while also health-conscious. :)

And I think it's always a good idea to share something unusual that you enjoy, even if it's not even much of a recipe but more of a guide. I pick up small tips and ideas from all over the place, and even if someone never follows this exactly, it will probably be an inspiration for someone who doesn't know what to have for breakfast one day. ;)

Have fun with your parents! :)

  2. You had me at "stack" ;) This looks so hearty, delicious and satisfying. Peanut butter and maple syrup is so good together and on top of wholegrain bread, so much the better! I really have lost the taste for white bread, something I thought would never happen!!

Btw - I LOVE the teacup in the background. Footed teacups are a bit of an obsession and the handle is driving me crazy because I think I see a thumb rest *sigh* LOL

  3. This is brilliant, Stella! I never thought of combining peanut butter and maple syrup directly on top of toast! Your dad is a genius! I can see where you get all that creative inspiration. :-)

  4. Aaack! How could you even contemplate on not sharing this deliciousness with us? So there is a naughty side to this oh so loveable witch (wink). You're absolutely right about this using typical ingredients cause I think I have all that. Guess kiddies will enjoy something delicious today! I'm allergic to peanuts but doesn't mean my kids should be deprived of such yumminess right? Mr. David K. Sure knows how to stack em'! DROOL! It's posts like these that make me curse my peanut allergies. Lol. Definitely my kind of comfort food Stella. Weather sux here, so thank you for bringing some brightness into my day. Hope you enjoy your visit with your parents!

  13. For a decadent-looking snack, it's sounds surprisingly healthy. And if you skip a meal or two afterwards (cos you're full), then it all balances out. Your dad is onto something, I think. Genius!

  15. Not every food preparation has to be complicated or overly thought out...especially when a dish comes with such sentimental values attached to it. So nice for you and your family to unite on this breakfast delight ;o)

Ciao for now and have a great weekend Stellina,

  18. I'm with LeQuan on this one. I can't believe you hesitated in sharing this because it looks darn delicious. I'm a huge fan of natural peanut butter with honey so it would only make sense that I'd enjoy it with maple syrup. I'll keep you posted :)

  19. Oh David K...you are brilliant. I can totally see myself replicating this tomorrow morning with gluten-free bread. The only thing is that I'll have to forgo the PB because of my nut-allergies.

I do hope that it will have some staying power during these long days of Ramadan!!

    Have fun at your mom's!

  27. I like having a "window" into other people's version of comfort food. While I didn't grow up eating this, I know what the individual components would taste like so I can imagine the finished product being good. Peanut butter and maple syrup are so good together and you can't go wrong adding cinnamon!

  28. Wow! Talk about a nutrition powerhouse! This would be keep me fueled all afternoon/evening. I love the way that peanut butter on toast tastes (I don't think I could ever get bored) and the syrup would just take it over the top. Thank you for sharing love!

  29. Ho-ly!
THis reminds me of a dessert that a Chinese bistro near my work serves. French toast slathered with peanut butter and maple syrup. I love the addition of berries and fruit in yours. Definitely just for special occassions ;)

  30. I love it and so would my kids! My son was so thrilled when "for his birthday" here in Beirut, someone gave him a jar of peanut butter! Alas, he is going back to the States because he misses "Chipotle" too much! lol!

  31. I love peanut butter and would put it in about everything I cook, but I try to show some restraint. This looks like a recipe where all restraint could be let go. Yipee. Thanks Stella, and hope you're having fun with your parents!

  32. I try to eat a peanut butter sandwich every morning. Sometimes I throw sliced bananas on top. This sounds like its almost the same thing but a lot better thanks to the maple syrup and cinnamon. I must try this tomorrow morning for breakfast!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hey Marly, you're too funny! We (the girls) share a David K. Stack with coffee or hot tea. David K. eats an entire stack, which might explain his developing belly;)

  42. I tend to think that having treats like this prevents me from binging elsewhere. These look like the perfect splurge in moderation!
