Simple Radish Salad

radish salad

Hello Dearies!

I know it's been a while since I've posted. This is mostly due to my laptop dying this last week along with camera issues that ensued the very next day. My old laptop owed me absolutely nothing being that he has faithfully served multiple people in my family for quite a while now, but I was hoping that my little point and shoot camera would last a bit longer. That being said, she is an old camera. She has not been used much till I began blogging here though, hence her complete and utter desire to leave this life is a bit frustrating. And especially so when I look at the prices of new cameras. Sheesh!

Outside of technical difficulties, I haven't blogged much due to not feeling like the food I made this last 10 days was anything of note. This changed in my mind as I took photos of my radish salad that I eat quite often here in the hollow. I was only taking the photos to see what my camera would do at different times with different light coming in when I thought 'why don't I post a lot of the food we so often eat?' I mean, it's real food, and there must be something good about it or we wouldn't eat it so often. Right?! Maybe...?

So I suppose this post is a little tribute to the food we often eat that is less than glamorous-a simple radish salad that makes just about any meal more fresh and certainly more crunchy and delicious (smile)...

Crunchy Radish Salad
1 1/4 Cups Sliced Radish
3/4 Tbsp. Olive Oil
3/4-1 Tbsp. Red Wine Vinegar
1/8 Tsp. Salt or to taste
Black Pepper to taste
Fresh Cilantro to garnish (optional but good)

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Chill for at least 10 minutes and serve.
Enjoy!

p.s. the fruit cake I accidentally posted the other day will be here soon. I had a toasted piece of it today with cream cheese, and it was unbelievable-yum. On that note, do any of you Dearies have a family recipe for edible fruit cake (smile)?

  1. Hi Stella, Happy to see you back in business, I don't like seeing the words, technical difficulties next to your blog name. I couldn't agree more that everyday food we eat is good enough for a blog post. I'm also a radish lover, they go in just about everything. I hope you're well and keep up the posts:)

  2. I'm sorry about all the hardware issues, Stella. They can be quite frustrating! But thank you for keeping things going with photos and recipes such as this. Radishes are indeed things of beauty. :-)

  3. I checked on earlier and saw your technical difficulties. I had some technical problems at my blog too. Although it was fixed, i feel it's naked! Thanks for checking on me Stella! I've been so busy. That's hilarious when you said you felt beautiful at age of 30th. You are beautiful Stella! That's what my friend told me too that I will feel differently from the twenties.

Anyway, I don't have radish often but your salad sounds good. I like the crisp and flavor of it.

  4. I never thought of eating an entire bowl of radishes before but I must admit that does sound good and very healthy. I am happy your blog is up and running again. I did see that fruit cake the other day and I can't wait to read its recipe!

  6. Hi Stella,
I'm so happy to see you back, I missed you:) Sorry to hear about the technical issues, they are no fun. I love radishes and your salad sounds so yummy. I can see why it's something you eat often. Everything you make and share is glamourous. It doesn't matter how "simple" a dish, I think if you eat it often it's definitely worth sharing!

  7. Hey Stella,

So glad to see a post from you. I've been out and about and visiting my parents all day and glanced at my google reader this afternoon briefly. When I saw that you had a post up, I couldn't wait till the kiddies have been taken care of (aka when Gary gets home) so that I could hop on over here. When you have kids, you don't always, wait, you never get to do what you want when you want. So take your time and enjoy couples life for a while until you know you're really ready ;-).

Anyways, it's been a while since I've had radishes. When I was little...ok let me rephrase that as my hubby always corrects me, when I was younger my Dad let me try one whole. They looked so good like strawberries, but at the first bite I was immediately taken aback by the spiciness. Then as I grew older I tried them again but this time in slices. That helped to solve the strong blast of spicy. When I saw your salad I was really happy to see that you sliced them up rather than leaving them whole. You don't always think about it, but the way you cut up your food can really make all the difference in a dish. It can be the determining factor between a great dish and a mediocre one. Your dishes are definitely no mediocre ones. Plus, I love how simple and healthy this is. I think you need to blog more with your everyday dishes. You've been holding out on us you naughty witch (wink).

Thank you for always leaving such warm comments on my blog, Stella. Kudos to you for getting your blog up and running again. I probably would've ditched my blog and started a whole new one. I don't handle technical difficulties well...teehee.

  8. Hey Stella!

Sorry to hear about your computer and camera. What a bummer! This little salad sounds like something I could eat everyday. Radishes are one of my favorite things!

  10. I'm admiring those beautiful radishes - are they from your garden? I have high hopes for a crop off radishes next year. I love these simple everyday recipes! And I know absolutely nothing about making fruitcake.

  11. Sorry about your technical difficulties but I think it's been going around. My computer was on the fritz yesterday and I was reading to throw it against a wall. I refrained. Barely.

I love radishes!! What a great recipe. :)

  12. Hoo boy. Camera and laptop at the same time? That's a pain. And I love simple, everyday dishes like your radish salad. Thanks for sharing!

  13. Stella, it's about X'mas, so maybe pamper yourself with a new toy? The radish salad might be simple, but looks really delicious and healthy.

  14. I am glad you`re back.
I would start writing a letter to father Christmas, you never know.
    Lovely salad ♥

  15. You are up and running much faster than I would ever have been. My heart went out to you after such a labour of love on this site. I am glad you are getting things worked out. It is snowing and fluffy and swirly and twirly here. Radishes seem so out of place... yet, I do eat them in the winter as they are always there... but not that often. They are more of a summer food to me, and I love them. This salad looks delicious. I have filed it under SUMMER SALADS for me!
Big hug to you and lots of positive energy for you to keep solving your technical issues.
    :)

  16. Mmm radishes. I love them but I don't eat them as often as I should. I usually just add them to a spinach salad, but you're right they deserve a bowl all to themselves!

Tech issues do suck. I write most of my posts on my iPod while I commute... lets just say I've lost a few sue to syncing issues with buggy apps - sigh. Glad you're up and running :)

  17. Hey Stella, sorry about your technical issues, when it rains it pours, oh dear. I agree you should post recipes that you enjoy on a weekly basis, I know I would enjoy them. As I find new inspiration from evry one of your posts. For instance I love this radish salad, I of course would throw in half a bunch of cilantro, lol. I love the thick slices..take care and glad you are online again.

  18. Really glad to see you back, Stella. There's nothing more frustrating than 'hardware issues'. I just got a new computer and it's taken me ages to transfer across my software etc. I only just realised yesterday that I left my beloved fonts behind :( Anyway, enough of my troubles, this is supposed to be about you and your lovely radishes. It's great that your regular food is so healthy and gorgeous - we wouldn't expect anything less =)

  19. Sorry about your computer and camera woes. I love radishes. Always have. My kids won't touch them. I remember bouncing through the kitchen while my mom was making dinner and grabbing slices of radish, pieces of raw potato, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage... and I was always crunching on carrots. Simple dishes like this can't be beat! Looking forward to your fruit cake recipe.

  20. Your laptop sure knows how to take a break during the holiday season. Or hinting you to do some shopping? LOL.

Easy salad to make when I get lazy.

  21. I'm so happy you've posted 'everyday food' Stella..., its the stuff that makes up our staple diet and we live on..., the fancy schmacy stuff..., which we cooks L U V to cook, so GO YOU girlfriend with this post.
OK..., I'll quietly step back down off my soapbox now....
    Ummmm, cool photos ;)

  22. I myself am guilty of often not posting the foods we actually eat frequently. I just wrote about that the other day! This radish salad looks wonderful. I love radishes, but it would be a tough sell to the kids!
Hope all of your technical difficulties are solved, I can't live without my witchy kitchen!

  23. So sorry for your technical difficulties this week. That can be so frustrating...but also kind of freeing too. We have so much on our computer - our music, our photos, stories, etc. I would be forced to sit with pen in hand without it. How awful would that be! ;-) The radishes look lovely!

  24. HATE computer glitches! My modem died last week so I know just how you feel, Stella. I've got a new one and life perked up considerably. :)
There is nothing better than a fresh radish dipped in salt. And your salad is a simple recipe that lets those lovelies shine right through!

  26. Hmmm, no I've never made fruit cake in my life! Radishes though, love 'em. In the spring I can get easter egg radishes at the farmer's market and I cook 'em up in some butter. Delicious!

  27. I love everything I've seen heating on your blog!
    Congratulations!
    has very good week

  28. Hi Stella. I'm sorry about your technical issues. Sometimes technology is more of a bother than a benefit, no? Anyway, I'm so glad you posted some 'real' food. I love it! I'm always wondering how food bloggers have time to make and eat the food they post about. It's really comforting to read about food that others eat regularly, since I am much more likely to make a simple salad than a fancy bouillabaisse. Anyway, that's just my opinion. Keep bringing on the good ol' home cookin! I'll be sure to keep reading about it. :)

  29. I love radishes. Simple salads are the best!

  30. Nice to see you back, Stella - I was wondering where you were hiding. :) I'm sorry to hear about your technical problems; but I hope they are all solved now.

The radish salad sounds simple and good. I'm not sure I can find them here anymore, but I'll keep this in mind for next summer. :)

I LOVE fruit cake and can't wait to read about yours. My mom makes amazing English fruit cake every Christmas, but unfortunately I don't know the recipe myself - I'll have to ask her when we get closer to Christmas this year. ;)

  31. Hi Stella,

Funny that I am experiencing the same problems like you do. I need a cam and a laptop to. A laptop for my rural placement. So have you got any camera or laptop you fancy?

I wonder what the first ever fruit cake taste like... and how it came to be popular. :|

  32. I love the idea of a simple crunchy radish salad like this one!

  33. Glad to see you're back on the wagon Stella :) of course food bloggers don't eat fancy every day, heck I don't eat fancy every other day. That's why I only post twice a week ;)

This is a perfectly delicious and post worthy salad and I LOVE the hot, crunchy bite of radishes. They are wonderful on their own and even better dressed as you have done!

  34. This is a lovely simple salad and reminds me very much of a radish salad that my dad made for me growing up.

  37. Glad your back, but sorry about your troubles...
I love this and I eat something similar often, sometimes I just snack on plain radishes :)
